Zen Hair is more than just a salon — it’s a space where creativity, community, and care come together. Since opening our doors on Melbourne Cup Day in 2005, we’ve been redefining beauty and self-expression through innovation, artistry, and heart.

Founded by Gary Shoebridge and Rik Pene, Zen Hair is the result of two unique talents coming together with a shared vision.

• Gary, our Style Director, is the creative soul of Zen. With an eye for detail and a passion for staying ahead of trends, he leads the team with inspiration and excellence, ensuring every client leaves feeling confident and radiant.
• Rik is the operational powerhouse — the one who keeps everything running like clockwork. From HR and marketing to finances and daily logistics, Rik’s strategic mind and hands-on approach create a seamless experience for both staff and clients.

Outside the salon, Gary and Rik enjoy a peaceful life on their 22-acre property in Beaudesert, just outside Brisbane. It’s a tranquil escape shared with their two dogs, Nala and Koda, five cheeky donkeys, and two charming chickens — a perfect balance to their fast-paced professional world. 

At Zen, we’re more than just a team — we’re a family. Our people are the heart of everything we do, and their dedication, passion, and loyalty speak volumes.

We must be doing something right — many of our team members have been with us since their apprenticeship days, growing with us for over 15 years. These are our OGs — the originals who helped shape the culture, values, and spirit that define Zen today.

Following in their footsteps is our incredible 10-year+ crew — the next generation of skilled professionals. They bring fresh energy, new ideas, and the same commitment to excellence, even if they haven’t been around quite as long as the OGs (yet!).

Then there’s the rest of our amazing team — a vibrant mix of experience, creativity, and diverse skills. Whether they’ve been with us for a few years or are just starting their Zen journey, every single person plays a vital role in what we do.
